Overview:
This article shows how to access/login to router's web GUI setting page via HTTPS protocol. Furthermore, there would be no warning message popping up in the browser by updating certificate to your browser.
What is HTTPS
HTTPS is a Web Access protocols. It is used for more the secure communication among the network.
How to login
ASUS router default address is www.asusrouter.com, and with HTTPS protocol is https://www.asusrouter.com:8443.
Step 1: Enter https://www.asusrouter.com:8443 on the URL bar in your browser to the WEB GUI.
Step 2: Click on [Advanced], and then [Proceed to www.asusrouter.com(unsafe)].
A warning message will show as below because browser requires a signed certificate to verify identity of the device. The default certificate in the router is self-signed and doesn't fulfill the default SSL policy of the browser. However, even if you see this warning page, which means router's self-signed Certificate is not trusted by your browser, the connection between your browser and the ASUS router/www.asusrouter.com server is still secure. If you do not want to see this warning page when you login to router's WEB GUI anymore, you can follow the steps below to remove it.
- Note 1: You have to type the entire address on URL bar of browser, including [ https:// ] and [ :8443 ].
- Note 2: If you have changed the port number, type the revised port number after address, instead of the default 8443.
Advanced: How to change the port number?
You can change the default 8443 port number in ASUS router's Web GUI from Advanced settings > Administration > System when you log in to it.
After port number changed, type the port number after address instead of default 8443 when you login to WEB GUI next time.
Advanced: How to remove HTTPS Not Secure warning page
If you try to access your ASUS router (Web GUI) via HTTPS in browser, you would probably see a warning message show as below because browser requires a signed certificate to verify identity of the device.
The default certificate in the router is self-signed and doesn't fulfill the default SSL policy of the browser.
Then your connection status will show Not Secure in the front of the URL bar.
Follow the steps below to download certificate and update to your browser. With certification updated on your browser, website is secured with HTTPS and owns a trusted certificate.
Step 1: Go to Administration > System > Authentication Method: select HTTPS or BOTH, and click [Apply] to save.
Step 2: Go to Administration > System > Download certificate: select [Export], and you will get a file named cert.tar.
Note: If you have followed Step1 and 2 but do not see the Export button for Download certificate, refer to FAQ.
Step 3: Unzip cert.tar file.
And double click to execute the cert.crt file.
Then you will see certification information as the below image, and click Install certificate.
Step 4: Select Current User, and click Next.
Step 5: Click Place all certificates in the following store and select Trusted Root Certification Authorization, and click OK.
Step 6: Click Next.
Step 7: Click Finish.
Step 8: Click Yes to complete installing the certificate.
Step 9: Click OK to finish the Install Certificate.
Step 10: Close your Browser and then re-open. Type the address https://www.asusrouter.com:8443 at URL bar in your browser. There would not show warning page in the browser, neither Not Secure before the URL bar.
- Note 1: Your browser will show [ secure ]. Please remember to enter [ :8443 ].
- Note 2: ASUS router can only have one certificate. Please go to DDNS and check if you are using Let's Encrypt or import your own DDNS certificate.

1. The Export button for Download certificate is not displayed in the router settings page?
a. After setting the authorization method, the Export button for Download certificate will appear.
Go to Administration > System > Authentication Method: select HTTPS or BOTH, and click [Apply] to save.
b. ASUS router can only have one certificate. Please go to WAN > DDNS and check if you are using Let's Encrypt or import your own DDNS certificate.
To cancel a certificate that is enabled in the DDNS feature, select [None] in the [HTTPS/SSL Certificate] field , and click [Apply] to save.
