[Wireless Router] How to use the QIS (Quick Internet Setup) to set up Router ? (Web GUI)

You can set up your wireless router by wired or wireless.
This article describes how to connect to ASUS router using a browser(Web GUI).

Kindly refer to the following picture to check if all the devices (Modem and router) are all connected via RJ-45 cable.
Note: Different models have different specifications, please refer to ASUS Download Center to download the product user manual to check the specifications.
- Connect the RJ45 cable to WAN port of router.
- Insert your wireless router’s AC adapter to the DC-IN port and plug it to a power outlet.
- After connecting to the power supply, remember to press the Power button to turn on the router.
- Connect to Router's default Network name (SSID): ASUS_XX
Default Network name (SSID) shown on the product label on the back side of the router.
Note: The location of labels for different models will vary.
Example 1: 2.4G WiFi Name(SSID): ASUS , 5G WiFi Name(SSID): ASUS_5G. You can find it on the label on the back of your router.
Example 2: WiFi Name (SSID): ASUS_XX, XX refers to the last two digits of 2.4GHz MAC address. You can find it on the label on the back of your router.

Kindly refer to the following picture to check if all the devices (Modem, router, and the computer) are all connected via RJ-45 cable.
- Connect the RJ45 cable to WAN port of router.
- Connect LAN port and computer with another network RJ45 cable.
- Insert your wireless router’s AC adapter to the DC-IN port and plug it to a power outlet.
- After connecting to the power supply, remember to press the Power button to turn on the router.
- Make sure the power LED indicator on the front of the router is on. The WiFi 2.4G/5G LED indicators flashes, and it indicates that the router is turned on.
In addition, the two network cables that you just connected to the WAN Port and LAN Port will have corresponding LED lights on. (Please check the user manual to confirm the LED light instructions for the wireless router)
Step 1. Connect your computer to the router via wired or WiFi connection and enter your router LAN IP or router URL http://www.asusrouter.com to the WEB GUI.
Note: Please refer to How to enter the router setting page(Web GUI) to learn more.
Step 2. When you login to the Web GUI for the first time, you will be directed to the Quick Internet Setup (QIS) page automatically.
Click [ Create A New Network ].

Step 3. The Internet connection type will be automatically detected. You can also choose [ Manual Setting ] to skip the auto detection.
Step 4. Follow the automatic detection results as the following:
There are three types of connections
For example: (Varies from every country/ region)
Country: Taiwan
WAN connection type: PPPoE
User Name : 87875692@hinet.net
Password: xxxxxxx
Notice: You need to confirm the above related information with your Internet Service Provider (ISP)
And then go to Step 5.
Please confirm with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the following information.
- IP Address
- Subnet Mask
- Default Gateway
- DNS Server
Fill in the required information and then go to Step 5.
If you want to set up 2.4GHz and 5GHz separately, tick the checkbox for the setup of each band.
Notice: Please enter at least 8 characters for the password and use the combination of English letters and numbers for it.
Step 6. Set up the login username and password for your router and click[ Next ]
Login name and password are required every time when you access to router configuration page. If you forget the login name and password, you may need to reset the router to default setting and setup from scratch to reset the login name and password.
Step 7. You will be directed to router management page once you finish QIS process.
From the [ Internet Status ] section, you can see your router is Connected to the Internet successfully.
Step 8. Now your devices can go online when connecting to ASUS router.
FAQ
1. What should I do if I don't know the Internet connection type for the router setup? (PPPoE, Static IP or Automatic IP)
It is recommended to ask your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to confirm your Internet connection type and required information for Internet setup.
2. Where can I find the Quick Internet Setup (QIS wizard) in Asus router Web UI?
If you want to execute QIS again after you finish the QIS setup, you can find the QIS wizard from the upper left in the router Web GUI. For how to enter the router Web GUI, please refer to [Wireless Router] How to enter the router setting page(Web GUI)?
3. What should I do if I forget the router login name and password?
Please reset your wireless router to default setting and set up the router again from scratch via QIS wizard. You should be able to reset the login name and password during QIS process.

4. Can I assign the same Wi-Fi SSID and password for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz?
Yes, you can assign the same Wi-Fi SSID and password for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. However, it is recommended that you set up the separate WIFI SSID and password for easy management and for devices to choose which Wi-Fi band to connect.

(1) Please choose [ Manual Setting ].
(2) QIS wizard will ask whether your Internet connection requires username and password or not.
- If your internet connection type is PPPoE, choose[Yes] then go to Step 4.
- If your internet connection type is Automatic IP, no need to enter any information and it will jump to Step 5.
- If your internet connection type is Static IP, choose [No] as the below picture.
(3) Then choose [Static IP] and fill in the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server. For details ,you can refer to Step4.
After you fill in the required information, please repeat doing step 5 to step 7 to complete the Internet setting.
If you are still not able to complete the internet setting, please confirm whether Internet connection type, username and password for internet are correct or not with your Internet service provider. Furthermore, please check if the device, like Modem, provided by ISP is working normally. Also, check whether Ethernet cable is working normally and well connected or not.

Go to ASUS router QIS, click [ Advanced Settings ] > [ upload ], after selecting this router configuration file to upload, it will be completed when the router is reboots.
