[NUC] Troubleshooting Linux* Issues on NUCs

During OS Installation: Linux* won't install or you can't boot to the desktop.

  1. Enter the BIOS.
  2. Select Advanced.
  3. Select Performance.
  4. Select Graphics.
  5. Disable iGD in the BIOS.
During OS Installation: The display freezes and the system locks up.NUC NUC7ixBNFedora 26*Older versions of Fedora may exhibit this symptom. Make sure you're using the latest version from Fedora.
HDMI audio isn't working.N/ALinux Mint 16* or Ubuntu.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Make sure that your system is up to date using the Update Manager.
  2. Add the following groups to your account: audio, pulse, pulse-access, video, and voice.
  3. In a Terminal window, run the following:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/alsa-daily
apt update
apt install oem-audio-hda-daily-dkm
  1. Reboot the system.
HDMI audio isn't working.N/AFedora 20*Update the kernel of Fedora 20 to the latest version (kernel version: 3.14.8 or later) to resolve this problem.

Phantom display is possibly mistaken for a system hang.
N/ALinux Mint 16, Ubuntu 13.10*, and Debian 7.3*

During installation, the display may remain blank, but the system still appears active.

OR

After a successful installation, the desktop sometimes appears blank (no icons or bottom panel).

This issue happens when the primary display is set to a phantom display, usually with the resolution of: 1024x768.

Try the following workaround:

  1. Right-click the desktop and select Change Desktop Background.
  2. On the System Settings screen, select All Settings.
  3. In the Hardware section, select Display settings. You should see a phantom display set as the default.
  4.
