[Motherboard] Troubleshooting-No post or BIOS no display on WS Motherboard with Graphics card(VGA switch)

WS Board provides a VGA switch (VGA_SW) that allows you to enable or disable the onboard VGA output coming from BMC.

When CSM option is set to Enabled in BIOS settings, the video output will always go to the BMC VGA port regardless an already installed external PCIe graphics card. Therefore, if there is no video output from the external PCIe graphics card during Post or BIOS setup while CSM option is set to Enabled, then you may shut down the system and switch off the VGA_SW, then boot up again to confirm video output during POST and BIOS. The following picture shows how the VGA_SW is switched on (enabled) or off (disabled)

(below Pro WS WRX80E-SAGE SE WIFI as example)

  • If you install a graphics card to a PCIe x16 slot with CSM option and VGA_SW turned on, then the display will still go to onboard VGA header (located in back panel).
  • If you wish to have display out via an external PCIe graphics card while CSM option is set to Enabled, please switch off VGA_SW.
  • The remote management functions via BMC will still be available when VGA_SW is set to Disabled, but the host will not be able to have an access to client’s desktop (remote desktop) via KVM.

Note:

  1. VGA switch is set to Enabled by default.
  2. Ensure the ATX power supply is switched off or the power cord is detached from the power supply when turning VGA_SW on or off
