[Windows 11/10] Change Local Account and Password
Please go to the corresponding instruction based on the current Windows operating system on your computer:
- Switch your Microsoft account to local account
- Add the local account password
- Change the local account password
- Remove the local account password
Switch your Microsoft account to local account
If you would like to log out your Microsoft account and sign in with the local account, please save all your work before logging out.
- Type and search [Your account info] in the Windows search bar①, and then click [Open]②.
- Click [Sign in with a local account instead]③.
- Select [Next]④ to verify your identity.
- Enter the PIN code you use currently⑤.
- After the verification is completed, please enter the User name, Password, and Password hint which you want to set up for the local account⑥, and then select [Next]⑦.
- Select [Sign out and finish]⑧, and then the computer will sign in with your new local account. Please make sure you have saved all your work before sign out.
Add the local account password
If your local account does not have a password yet, but you want the computer to require a password to sign in to your account, you can refer to the following method to add the local account password.
- Click the [Start] icon on the middle of the taskbar①, and then select [Settings]②.
- Select [Accounts]③, and then select [Sign-in options]④.
- Select Password, and then click [Add]⑤.
- Enter the Password and Password hint you want⑥, and then select [Next]⑦.
- Select [Finish]⑧ and the password will be created. The computer will require the password next time when you sign in.
Change the local account password
If your local account has a password and you want to change it, you can refer to the following method to change the local account password.
- Click the [Start] icon on the middle of the taskbar①, and then select [Settings]②.
- Select [Accounts]③, and then select [Sign-in options]④.
- Select Password, and then click [Change]⑤.
- Enter your current password⑥, and then select [Next]⑦.
- Enter the New password and Password hint you want⑧, and then select [Next]⑨.
- Select [Finish]⑩ and the password will be changed. The computer will require the new password next time when you sign in.
Remove the local account password
If your local account has a password and you want to sign in to Windows without a password, you can refer to the following method to remove the local account password.
- Click the [Start] icon on the middle of the taskbar①, and then select [Settings]②.
- Select [Accounts]③, and then select [Sign-in options]④.
- Select Password, and then click [Change]⑤.
- Enter your current password⑥, and then select [Next]⑦.
- Leave the New password, Confirm password and Password hint fields blank⑧, and then select [Next]⑨.
- Select [Finish]⑩ and the password will be removed. You can sign in to your local account and use your computer without a password.

Switch your Microsoft account to local account
If you would like to log out your Microsoft account and sign in with the local account, please save all your work before logging out.
- Type and search [Your account info] in the Windows search bar①, and then click [Open]②.
- Click [Sign in with a local account instead]③.
- If you receive the following notification, please make sure you have backed up the recovery key and then select [Skip this step]④ to continue the next. If not, select Close and back up and then follow the instructions.
- Select [Next]⑤ to verify your identity.
- Enter the password of your Microsoft account⑥, and then select [OK]⑦.
- After the verification is completed, please enter the User name, Password, and Password hint which you want to set up for the local account⑧, and then select [Next]⑨.
- Select [Sign out and finish]⑩, and then the computer will sign in with your new local account. Please make sure you have saved all your work before sign out.
Add the local account password
If your local account does not have a password yet, but you want the computer to require a password to sign in to your account, you can refer to the following method to add the local account password.

- Enter your current password⑥, and then select [Next]⑦.
- Leave the New password, Confirm password and Password hint fields blank⑧, and then select [Next]⑨.
- Select [Finish]⑩ and the password will be removed. You can sign in to your local account and use your computer without a password.
