[Gaming NB] ROG 2022 AMD Ryzen 6000 series USB4 feature

This article describes USB4 features for the Gaming laptop models of year 2022 with AMD Ryzen 6000 series processors.

 

Question 1. Do the ROG laptops of year 2022 with AMD Ryzen 6000 series processors support USB4?

Answer 1. AMD models of year 2022 do not yet formally support USB4 features due to this feature still under developing. If you would like to test, download a beta BIOS and PD firmware for supporting USB4 to Install it. Before you install and test USB4, please must read the relevant Notice and Warning information.

Notice/Warning:

  • The USB4 features on AMD Ryzen 6000 series processors are not complete yet, and you may encounter Issues after enabling it. Follow the Rollback Guide to go back to the official BIOS and corresponding PD firmware, if issues you have encountered are affecting your daily user experience.  
    Known Issues:  
    It may cause compatibility issues with some Thunderbolt devices.  
    Might not be able to enter Modern Standby when Thunderbolt device is connected.
  • The beta BIOS will NOT be maintained in conjunction with the official BIOS version. To keep the best user experience, we still prefer you return to the official BIOS version.
  • Please must follow the instructions to install or return to the official BIOS and PD firmware, to prevent any unexpected issues.  
     

Installation Guide:

  1. Please make sure your PC has updated to the latest version of Windows first. Here you can learn more about How to execute Windows Update.
  2. Download and extract the beta BIOS and PD firmware update tool. Please download the corresponding update tool based on your laptop’s model name, here you can learn more about How to check the model name.

  1. Install the beta BIOS with EZ flash to enable USB4 support. Here you can learn more about How to use EZ flash to update BIOS.  
    Note: The beta BIOS is named with "Model Name"AS.50x.U4.
  2. If your laptop is model GA402RJ, GA402RK, GA503RM, GA503RS, GA503RW, GA503RX, GV601RE, GV601RM, GV601RW, GX650RM, GX650RS, GX650RW, or GX650RX, you additionally need to update the PD firmware to enable USB4 support.  
    Under the Installation Package folder, run the "ROGPDFWUpdateTool_Enable_USB4.exe" application to update the PD firmware.
    Note: If your computer model is GA402RJ or GA402RK, in addition to updating the PD firmware, you also need to update the AMD Chipset and Graphics drivers in the Installation Package folder.

 

Rollback Guide:

  1. Please download the corresponding update tool based on your laptop’s model name, then install the official BIOS under the Rollback Package folder with EZ flash. The USB4 feature will be disabled. Here you can learn more about How to use EZ flash to update BIOS.  
    Note: After installing the official BIOS, we recommend you update to the latest version of BIOS to help the system stability and optimization.
  2. If your laptop is model GA402RJ, GA402RK, GA503RM, GA503RS, GA503RW, GA503RX, GV601RE, GV601RM, GV601RW, GX650RM, GX650RS, GX650RW, or GX650RX, you additionally need to rollback the PD firmware to disable USB4 support.  
    Under the Rollback Package folder, run the "ROGPDFWUpdateTool_Disable_USB4.exe" application to rollback the PD firmware.

 

Question 2. Should I install the beta BIOS and PD firmware for the USB4 feature on the ROG laptops of year 2022 with AMD Ryzen 6000 series processors?

Answer 2. Because this feature is still under developing and not complete yet, you may encounter Issues after installing it. Follow the Rollback Guide to go back to the official BIOS and corresponding PD firmware, if issues you have encountered are affecting your daily user experience.

Answer 3. Since this feature is still under developing, we will not formally support it before ensuring the best user experience is present.
