ASUS Philippines Donates VivoBook Laptops for Lung Center of the Philippines’ COVID-19 Testing Labs

MANILA, Philippines, May 07, 2020- In response to the health crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, ASUS Philippines and ASUS Foundation have extended immediate aid and robust technical support to the Lung Center of the Philippines.

Currently, the COVID-19 testing laboratory in the said medical institution was limited to the usage of a few desktop computers, which were used to encode 500+ test results per day. Further, the same computers were used to also email the results to patients and other hospitals.

In order to scale up the post-testing process and overall testing capacity, ASUS Philippines donated seven (7) ASUS VivoBook S15 laptops, and purchased seven (7) Microsoft Office Home and Student 2019 licenses, as well as two (2) Hyper X SSD Hard Drives. This modest donation was meant to provide a faster and more efficient COVID-19 testing facility, and to ease the workload of the frontliners.

Mr. George Su, Country Manager of ASUS Philippines shares, “In ASUS Philippines, we believe that no aid is too small to make a difference. With the help of former DOH Secretary Enrique Ona Jr, my team and I did not hesitate in doing our part and responding to the request of Lung Center of the Philippines. We want to help the community as much as we can. We are not only here to provide innovative technologies but of course, we are also here to support our frontliners.”

Dr. Gerald Tejada, MD, GeneXpert Lab of Lung Center of the Philippines shares, “Ideally, our machines that do the tests should be able to communicate with a laboratory information system so that it can automatically interpret and match the results with the patients. Due to lack thereof, the laptops from ASUS Philippines are used as a stopgap, and a breathing, thinking human being behind each laptop encodes each result. Hence, we can’t be grateful enough for their donation.”

Representatives from ASUS Philippines CSR Team are in coordination with other medical and educational institutions for more possible donations in the near future.
