Performance leadership

LAS VEGAS, USA, January 4, 2022 ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced the Zephyrus Duo 16, a dual-screen laptop with flagship components and top-tier performance. Featuring the brand-new Nebula HDR Display™ paired with incredibly powerful CPU and GPU options, the Zephyrus Duo 16 is here to elevate the gaming experience. Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Extreme and AAS Plus 2.0 ensure that the Zephyrus Duo 16 stays cool in all conditions.

One machine, two screens

Zephyrus Duo 16 takes things to a whole new level. Featuring ROG ScreenPad Plus™, this up to 4K, 14.1-inch secondary screen reinvents what’s possible on a laptop. Users can host favorite apps on ROG ScreenPad Plus™ while gaming and never have to worry about minimizing gaming windows. With robust Windows 11 support, they can also quickly switch between apps or rearrange the screens when priorities change.

When the main lid is raised, the ROG ScreenPad Plus automatically rises to match, settling in at a 13° angle for maximum ergonomics and airflow. The engineering team developed and patented a brand-new four-directional hinge that allows ROG ScreenPad Plus to slide back while raising at the same pace. When at full height, the two screens sit flush with each other, creating a nearly bezel-free viewing experience for unparalleled immersion. ROG’s AAS Plus 2.0 system takes advantage of the 28.5 mm of free space between the screen and chassis to take in 30% more fresh air than traditional gaming laptop designs.

Incredible screen options

Incredible screen options

ROG ScreenPad Plus is not the only display getting an upgrade this year. The Zephyrus Duo 16’s main display has been upgraded to a 16:10 aspect ratio, allowing more real estate with ultraslim bezels and an incredible 91% screen-to-body ratio. For 2022, the Duo 16 has two incredible panel options, and both meet the new ROG Nebula Display™ specification. All Nebula displays require 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, at least 500 nits of peak brightness, and a response time of 3 milliseconds or less. It also means a minimum refresh rate of 120 Hz for 4K, 120 Hz for QHD and 240 Hz for Full HD resolution.

The first display option meets all of these requirements, while pushing the boundaries of stunning HDR performance. This QHD, 16:10, 165 Hz Nebula HDR panel uses mini LEDs that are capable of an eye watering 1100 nits of peak brightness. Nebula HDR is VESA DisplayHDR™ 1000 certified, boasting 512 dimming zones for a truly out of this world HDR experience. Powered by AUO's AmLED technology and ROG's Nebula HDR Engine, Nebula HDR uses incredibly precise backlights for local dimming that produces stunning contrast. This software combination of adaptive image processing paired with adaptive dimming and boosting of the backlight helps deliver incredibly accurate imagery with minimal haloing.

The second panel, co-developed with BOE, is the ROG exclusive Dual Spec Panel. This incredible display offers users the choice between two modes: 4K at 120Hz, ideal for high-fidelity immersive experiences; and 1080p at 240 Hz, which allows for super-fast reaction times in competitive esports play. In the 240 Hz mode, ROG Pixel Acceleration Technology will scale the Full HD image using four physical pixels for every one digital pixel, creating a clean, ultra-fast image. Gamers no longer need to choose between a high-refresh-rate display or one with higher resolution — the Dual Spec panel allows gamers the best of both worlds in a single display.

Performance leadership

High-end hardware drives the performance of the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16. Up to AMD Ryzen™ 9 6980HX processors and an NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080 Ti Laptop GPU provide more than enough horsepower to maintain high refresh rates in the latest AAA titles. Not content to stop there, ROG also equipped the machine with up to 64 GB of blazing-fast DDR5 memory clocked at 4800 MHz, as well as up to 4 TB of PCIe® Gen 4x4 storage in a RAID 0 array. Both the DDR5 SO-DIMMs and NVMe storage drives are easily accessible for future upgrades. No game, content creation project, or multitasking situation is too mighty for the power of the Zephyrus Duo 16. All of these improvements come in an even smaller chassis than last year.

This high-end hardware requires high-end cooling. Previous generations of the Zephyrus Duo used a liquid metal thermal compound for high-efficiency thermal transfer. New for 2022, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is equipped with Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal. This amazing material has 17 times higher thermal conductivity than traditional thermal pastes, allowing the Zephyrus Duo 16 to run 15° C cooler. Lower temperatures allow the CPU and GPU to boost higher for longer, coaxing even more performance from this powerful machine. Thanks to this high-performance liquid metal, the max TGP of the Zephyrus Duo 16 has been increased to a staggering 165 watts. The indium- and gallium-based compound will not dry out or lose thermal efficiency over time, giving gamers reliability and peace of mind for years to come.

In addition, the 2022 Zephyrus Duo 16 comes equipped with a MUX Switch to make the most of every frame. By default, most modern laptops route the GPU’s frames through the CPU’s integrated graphics for better battery life. But with a MUX switch, users can enable a direct GPU mode that reduces latency and boosts performance by an average of 9%. In competitive games where a few frames can be the difference between winning and losing, the Zephyrus Duo 16 leaves no performance on the table.
