ASUS Announces RS720A-E9 and RS700A-E9 Servers Featuring the Latest AMD EPYC Processors
Scalable x86 servers with AMD EPYC processors support up to 32 cores per socket and 64 cores per node for high-performance computing and virtualization
TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 21, 2017 —ASUS today announced RS720A-E9 and RS700A-E9, x86 servers featuring the latest AMD® EPYC™ processors designed for data-intensive, high-performance computing and virtualization. As a select partner of AMD, ASUS is among the first to introduce servers with AMD EPYC processors. Featuring 32 CPU cores that support 64 simultaneous threads, 128-lane I/O, 32 DIMM slots and eight memory channels, AMD EPYC processors deliver incredible performance for even the most demanding server tasks. Combined with the scalability, user-friendly design, energy-efficiency and complete server management tools provided by ASUS servers, the RS720A-E9 and RS700A-E9 series are compelling choices when building a datacenter. “We recognized early on the significant performance and scalability potential of EPYC for a number of ASUS platforms spanning HPC and virtualization workloads,” said Robert Chin, Head of ASUS Server Business Unit. “As a longtime AMD technology partner, we are thrilled to design EPYC-based products that will transform the datacenter experience and TCO for our customers.” “ASUS and AMD are working together to bring a completely new approach to supporting the requirements of the modern datacenter with EPYC. The leadership performance of EPYC and its system-on-chip technology are ideally suited to address virtualized infrastructure, fast data, and new, emerging workloads,” said Scott Aylor, CVP and General Manager, AMD Enterprise Solutions. “We are excited to join with ASUS today as they announce their EPYC products and we look forward to continuing our technology partnership to deliver future innovation to the industry.”Powered by AMD EPYC processors
RS720A-E9 and RS700A-E9 are built on the brand-new AMD EPYC platform to deliver incredible server performance. With up to 64 threads per socket and 128 threads per node in a single 1U/2U server, RS720A-E9 and RS700A-E9 pack incredible power in minimal space. 32 DIMM slots provide best-in-class memory capacity and bandwidth, and an integrated I/O controller on the processor eliminates the data transfer bottlenecks caused by discrete I/O chipsets for reduced latency and dramatically faster system performance.Scalable for bigger storage and greater applications
RS720A-E9 features seven full-height PCIe® 3.0 x16 slots (x8 mode). Six of these slots can be paired together to enable three PCIe 3.0 x16 mode configurations. RS720A-E9 also comes with one low-profile PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (x16 mode) and one OCP Mezzanine 2.0 slot (x16 mode) for OCP LAN cards. RS700A-E9 offers flexible expandability with one full-height PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (x16 mode), one low-profile PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (x8 mode), one low-profile PCIe 3.0 x8 slot (x8 mode), and one OCP Mezzanine 2.0 slot (x16 mode) for OCP LAN cards. These robust expansion options make RS720A-E9 and RS700A-E9 suitable for a wide range of storage and networking applications, and provide high scalability for 2U and 1U servers.
User-friendly and energy-efficient design
When building a datacenter, server maintainability is top consideration. ASUS RS720A-E9 and RS700A-E9 feature numerous user-friendly design features that simplify server maintenance and real-time troubleshooting. Two M.2 slots accommodate 22110-length SSDs for robust and scalable storage options. Each server's Q-code is visible from the outside of the case to make diagnosing issues easier and more convenient. A tool-less rack rail kit is included for easy server installation and removal, and a tool-less, hot-swappable fan makes for faster and simpler maintenance. Both models also feature energy-efficient designs that eliminate the power-sharing board for reduced power consumption and operation costs.
Complete server management with ASUS ASMB9-iKVM and ASUS Control Center
With an onboard ASMB9-iKVM, ASUS RS720A-E9 and RS700A-E9 servers enable remote out-of-band management via the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI). Additionally, the all-new ASUS Control Center software provides a centralized server management solution with comprehensive control over IT environments and reduced IT operation costs
