Situation
1. When WiFi devices cannot access to internet, please go to ASUS router web interface > network map to check whether the network map shows internet disconnected.
When WiFi devices cannot access the Internet, is the wired device unable to access the Internet too?
If Internet status shows disconnected or wired devices cannot access to internet, please refer to below FAQ for internet trouble shooting.
- [Network Map] Internet status description in the router's GUI
- [Troubleshooting] Failed Internet access through router
2. If ISP modem has WiFi function, try to connect WiFi devices to Internet Service Provider (ISP) modem WiFi to see if WiFi device can access to internet through modem WiFi .
If WiFi device can access to internet via Modem's WiFi, please login to ASUS router UI to see if router internet status shows disconnected. May refer to FAQ for details.
- [Network Map] Internet status description in the router's GUI
- [Troubleshooting] Failed Internet access through router
If WiFi device cannot access to internet via Modem' WiFi,
(1). Please contact your ISP for modem internet issue.
(2). If Wired devices can access to internet via modem, may refer to below trouble shooting steps.
3. When you use a wireless router to connect to the Internet, you find that your wireless connection device is often disconnected.
(E.g. use a phone, computer, etc. to connect router's Wi-Fi SSID (2.4GHz or 5GHz) easy to disconnect)
You can refer to the following steps for simple troubleshooting.
Introduction
- Check Firmware Version
- Set the channel bandwidth to default
- Switch to a control channel with less interference
- Disable Smart Connect
- Adjust the direction of the router's antennas
- Adjust the placement of the router
- Environmental interference
- Update the wireless device driver or firmware
- Restore the router to default settings
Please make sure the firmware of the router is up to date.
[Note] For the information of how to upgrade firmware, please refer to How to update the firmware of your router to the latest version
[Note] How to improve wireless speed by setting Channel Bandwidth?
Go to Wireless > General >Band (select 2.4GHz or 5GHz) > Channel Bandwidth

You can try adjusting the angle of the external antenna (e.g. 45 degrees, 90 degrees, etc.) to the optimal signal distance.
Below we take RT-AC88U for example, for other models, please refer to user manual.
To ensure the best wireless signal, set the four detachable antennas as below suggested image. Below we take RT-AC88U for example, for other models, please refer to user manual.
[Note] You can download the user manuals in the ASUS Download Center.
>> Wi-Fi is distinguished into 2.4GHz and 5GHz, 2.4GHz signal transmission distance is farther than 5GHz, but slower than 5GHz, 5GHz although the signal transmission distance is shorter, but the speed can be faster.
When your wireless device is often disconnected, you can first check that your wireless device is connected to Wi-Fi (2.4GHz or 5GHz) and confirm the distance between the wireless device and the router when the Wi-Fi is disconnected.
Interferences: microwave ovens, refrigerator, wireless phones, power boxes... And so on, some home appliances will also produce interference with wireless channels.
Barriers: iron cabinets, iron doors, cement walls, closed cabinets, placed on the ground, behind the sofa. Some high-density building materials can also affect Wi-Fi signal penetration, such as gypsum, planks, barbed wire, etc.
>> It is recommended that you place the router in the center of the environment where possible, in an open area, where there is less furniture, where there is no wall barrier, or on a wooden cabinet, on a tabletop.
- Wireless device: Such as Laptop, Smart Phone, USB Wi-Fi Adapter, CONSOLE.
Note: Mac device Wi-Fi signal is often disconnected after roaming between AiMesh router and nodes, refer to this FAQ.
9. Restore the router to default settings.
Following pictures take RT-AC68U as an example.
(Different models might have slight differences, please confirm the related information in the user manual if you have any concern.)
(1) Press the RESET button around 5~10 seconds until the Power LED indicator of router starts flashing, then you could stop pressing.
In the meantime, all the LED indicators of the router should be off and it’s a normal phenomenon because the router is rebooting itself.
And wait until the Power LED indicator and Wi-Fi LED indicators are on again, you could try to enter the GUI of the router again.
Notice: After resetting the router, all the settings will be cleared and will need to be setup again.
(2) Use the Quick Internet Setup (QIS) to setup your router again.
About how to use Quick Internet Setup (QIS) to setup your router, please refer to
- [Wireless Router] How to set up ASUS Wi-Fi router via ASUS Router App? (QIS, Quick Internet Setup)
