[Phone] How to fix Power On/Off Issues

When your device experiences any of the following issues, follow these steps:      
 

Unable to power on (e.g., no response from the device, blank screen, frozen)

1. Disconnect all connected devices, including chargers.          
2. Press and hold the power button on the side of the device until it vibrates to turn on.          
    If the device still doesn't power on after holding the power button for 15 seconds:    
      2.1 Connect the device to a charger and ensure it's charging.          
      2.2 Charge the device using the original charger for at least 1 hour.          
      2.3 If the device still doesn't power on after charging, try a different charger.          
      2.4 If the issue persists, take your device to an authorized service center or contact customer support.    
 

Device vibrates during startup but won't boot to the home screen (e.g., abnormal startup, stuck on logo, no backlight, black screen,automatically restart)

1. Force restart your device:          
     • For ROG Phone 3 and Zenfone 7 (and later): Press and hold volume down and power simultaneously for at least 8 seconds. If it doesn't restart after 8 seconds, try pressing and holding both buttons for 12 seconds.    
     • For ROG Phone 2 and Zenfone 6 (and earlier): Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force a shutdown, then press the power button again to turn on the device.

     • For Pad: Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force a shutdown, then press the power button again to turn on the device.   
2. If your device still doesn't boot to the home screen after a force restart, perform a hardware reset:          
    To perform a hardware reset:    
    2.1 First force shutdown your device:    
           • For ROG Phone 3 and Zenfone 7 (and later): Press and hold volume down and power simultaneously. Once the screen turns off, immediately release both buttons.

           • For ROG Phone 2 and Zenfone 6 (and earlier): Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds. Once the screen turns off, immediately release the power button.

           • For Pad: Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds. Once the screen turns off, immediately release the power button.

    2.2 Perform a hardware reset: Please refer to the FAQ for instructions.

          IMPORTANT!

           • Performing a hardware reset will erase all data on your device.

           • After entering the system, if you are prompted to enter a Google account, please enter the Google account you used when you first set up the device.

 

Device malfunctions during use and requires a restart

Press and hold the power button to display the power off menu and select Restart.

If the device cannot restart normally, follow these steps to force a restart:

 •  For ROG Phone 3 and Zenfone 7 (and later): Press and hold volume down and power simultaneously for at least 8 seconds. If it doesn't restart after 8 seconds, try pressing and holding both buttons for 12 seconds.

 •  For ROG Phone 2 and Zenfone 6 (and earlier): Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force a shutdown, then press the power button again to turn on the device.

 •  For Pad: Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force a shutdown, then press the power button again to turn on the device.

 

Unable to power off

Press and hold the power button to display the power off menu and select Power off.

If the device cannot power off normally, follow these steps to force a shutdown:

 • For ROG Phone 3 and Zenfone 7 (and later): Press and hold volume down and power simultaneously. Once the screen turns off, immediately release both buttons.

 • For ROG Phone 2 and Zenfone 6 (and earlier): Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds. Once the screen turns off, immediately release the power button.

 • For Pad: Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds. Once the screen turns off, immediately release the power button. 
 

Automatic Shutdown

1. Please check if the phone's charging port has any debris or damage. 
2. Make sure the battery has enough charge to use the phone. 
3. If the phone overheats, it may automatically shut down to protect the hardware. Avoid using the phone in high-temperature environments, especially while charging. 
4. Update the system software to the latest version: Go to Settings > System > System Update, and tap Check Update
5. An app might be causing the phone to shut down automatically. Try uninstalling any recently installed apps. You can enter Safe Mode, which disables third-party apps, to help determine if a third-party app is causing the issue: Press and hold the power button > Press and hold the Power off option > Tap OK
6. System Reset: If the above methods don't work, consider backing up your data and resetting the phone to factory settings. 

    Note: Performing a factory reset will erase all your apps, settings, and personal information, returning the phone to its initial state. Make sure to back up your data beforehand.

 

*If your device continues to malfunction after following these steps, take it to an authorized service center or contact customer support.
