[External SSD] How to set up the external SSD as storage on Xbox X|S?

External SSD supports XBOX X|S and uses as the storage device of X|S. Provide your XBOX X|S with more space for games and applications storage / backups.

Note: Due to the Hardware specification of XBOX, you need to prepare the Type-C to Type-A connector to connect your external SSD to the XBOX X|S.

 

1. Plug your external SSD into the XBOX X|S USB Port.

    XBOX X|S Series has 3 USB Type-A port. (One on the front panel and the other are on the back panel)

    The USB Ports on front panel or on back panel are workable with your external SSD.

    Note: Because XBOX X|S series support USB Type-A port, and the USB connector cable of external SSD is USB Type-C to Type-C. Customer needs to use the connector of Type-C to Type-A to make your external SSD plugs to XBOX X|S successfully.

 

2. Once you plug in your external SSD, you will see a pop-up window that reads [Use for media] or [Use for games]. Click on [Use for games].

 

3. Name your external SSD.

 

4. Format your external SSD on the XBOX.

    Choose [Format Storage Device].

    Note: After the USB hard disk being format, all the data on the USB HDD would be removed and couldn’t be recovered. Suggest to back up your important data before fromatting.

 

5. After formatting is finished, it will show [External Storage ready] at the bottom of the screen. The setup is complete.

    Please go to the [Settings] > [System] > [Storage Devices]. And then click your external SSD in the [Manage Storage devices] setting page to manage the device.

    Yes, the external SSD is compatible with handheld gaming PCs.

    No, game consoles and PCs apply different data formats. You cannot read console games on your PC.
