2014/05/21

Gaming headset boasts 60mm neodymium-magnet drivers, 90% environmental-noise cancellation, and PC, Mac, PS4 and smart-device compatibility

ASUS today announced its new Strix brand and Strix Pro, a multi-platform gaming headset engineered with powerful 60mm neodymium-magnet drivers, full-size hexagonal ear cushions (130mm across at the widest point) and technology that filters our over 90% of environmental noise. Strix Pro is compatible with PCs, Macs, PlayStation® 4 consoles and many smartphones and tablets. Taken from the ancient Roman and Greek word for owl, Strix is the brand name for the stunning new ASUS gaming-gear series. Strix means the keenest hearing and sharpest eyesight and the ability to feel the environment, enabling the player to detect and react to even the slightest movement. Strix means survival on the very edge of instinct. Strix is in gamers’ blood, just as it is in ours. The Strix brand will this year expand to include a wide variety of gaming gear, including exceptionally-agile mice, boundary-pushing keyboards, super-cool graphics cards and awesome gaming headsets. The first products to appear are graphics cards and Strix Pro — a high-style gaming headset inspired by the owl’s unique combination of supreme hunting agility, great speed and highly-attuned hearing.

Game immersed — thunderous 60mm drivers

The Strix Pro gaming headset is engineered with powerful 60mm neodymium-magnet drivers that deliver unrivalled punch and audio immersion that is utterly convincing. Gamers are treated to an audio experience that allows them to hear every gunshot and know enemies are nearby from their footsteps alone. Strix Pro also offers a superb listening experience for any kind of audio, adapting to faithfully reproduce roomy stadium rock and crisp, clear spoken-word audio. The thunderous bass produced by Strix Pro’s large drivers brings movie soundtracks to life.

Game with enhanced clarity — greater than 90% environmental-noise cancellation

Strix Pro is supplied with a USB-powered control box that includes a built-in microphone (mic) to enable highly-effective environmental-noise-cancellation (ENC) technology. Strix Pro’s ENC technology actively detects and effectively counters more than 90% of environmental noise.[1] In this mode, gamers are assured that teammates won’t be distracted in chat by noises occurring nearby, such as the tapping of mechanical keyboards.

Game across devices — compatibility with PCs, Macs, PlayStation 4 and smart devices

Strix Pro is an exceptionally versatile gaming headset that works with most popular devices and it is engineered for convenience and flexibility. The USB control box is accompanied by a 1.5m extension lead with separate headphone and mic plugs, for great compatibility with PC and Mac. The unique five-pole connector eliminates crosstalk for audio, giving communication quality that surpasses many other headsets. Strix Pro is also perfect for smartphones, tablets and PlayStation 4, with a combined audio/mic supplied for instant compatibility. ASUS research shows that a 1.2m cable is the perfect length for mobile or PlayStation 4 controller use, so Strix Pro is equipped with precisely this span. The connecting cable is manufactured with a braided-fiber sheath for added style, comfort and superb durability.

Game everywhere — travel-friendly foldable design, low weight and great comfort

Strix Pro’s full-size hexagonal ear cushions provide a snug fit, great comfort and easy customization — the cushions are user-replaceable. The headset also benefits from a clever foldable design that allows the ear cups to lay flat, making it ideal for packing and bringing to a LAN party or tournament, while the detachable microphone boom is perfect for easy removal, travel and storage. Weighing just 320g, Strix Pro is also highly portable and supremely comfortable to wear.

1. Strix Pro must be connected via USB to activate the environmental-noise-cancellation (ENC) feature. ENC performance was tested and verified by ASUS in our own laboratories. Actual performance may vary depending on distance from noise source, room size, placement and other factors.
