ASUS Announces BR1402 Series

TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 19, 2023 — ASUS today announced BR1402 series, the world’s first 2-in-1 ruggedized 14-inch laptops aimed at K-12 education — and designed for the need of modern students and hybrid learning.

Available in both traditional clamshell form (BR1402C) and a convertible design that flips 360° to become a versatile multitouch tablet (BR1402F), the all-new BR1402-series laptops are built to military-grade standards and packed with clever protective features to help students through their learning journey.

BR1402 series are also loaded with essentials for the demands of hybrid study, enabling education to flow seamlessly from the classroom into the home and beyond. To empower a full day’s study, these laptops include up to 10-hour battery life, full-function USB-C®, up to WiFi 6 for speedy connectivity and a modular design to ensure easy maintenance and upgrades.

With reliable, rugged designs, a choice of form factors, and options that include a fast-charging garaged stylus, and world-facing camera, BR1402-series laptops provide expansive education opportunities for modern students and today’s hybrid learning paradigm.

Reliably rugged

ASUS BR1402 series are the world’s first 2-in-1 ruggedized 14-inch laptops specially designed for the needs of modern K-12 students and education.

Both models have been designed and extensively tested to meet the exacting standard for US military-grade durability1. The exterior circumference is protected by a rubber bumper, which reduces the impact of physical shocks.

Key surfaces are also coated with a smooth, fingerprint-resistant finish, making it easy to keep the laptop clean. A rubber bar on the base provide support and also makes it easier to grip when carrying — a thoughtful design detail that reduces the risk of fumbles and slips. The keyboard is spill-resistant, able to cope with up to 400 cc of water2 and the keys are tamper-resistant, meaning they cannot be easily pried out. The reinforcements extend to both the display hinges and I/O ports, which have both been exhaustively tested to ensure they are able to endure the stresses and strains of everyday use. The flippable display of BR1402F is crafted from ultra-strong, scratch-resistant Corning® Gorilla® Glass, preventing scratches and withstands higher stress levels.

The surface of any laptop harbors thousands of potentially harmful bacteria, and this is especially true of models used by kids in classrooms. To keep BR1402 series hygienic, the keyboard, touchpad, and palm rest are all protected with ASUS Antimicrobial Guard3 technology to inhibit the growth of bacteria and help keep the laptop’s surface clean and sanitary for longer. Both models benefit from TÜV Rheinland certification for low blue-light emissions, potentially helping to protect student’s eyes from damage and providing better comfort during long-term viewing sessions.

The BR1402 series laptops are also packed with security features to keep students and their data protected. Both feature a physical webcam shield on user facing camera for instant privacy. There is also integrated biometric security, with an optional fingerprint sensor for fast, safe login, plus optional enterprise-grade TPM 2.0 to keep data secure and protect privacy.

Ready for modern education

Today’s students are online for an extended period of time, laptops with large displays, an all-day lasting battery, reliable connectivity, and expansion options allow the machine to grow with their needs.

ASUS BR1402 models feature a vivid 14-inch display and is powered by a battery that provides up to 10 hours on a single charge — or enough juice to keep going for a full day’s learning and beyond. They also benefit from up to WiFi 6 technology to empower fast, reliable online activities

BR1402 series are also designed to be expanded, with a slot ready to accommodate SSDs of up to 1 TB or can be equipped with up to 256 GB of fast UFS 2.1 storage, ensuring students can manage complex projects from the get-go.

Easy physical connectivity and peripheral compatibility are also priorities for BR1402 series. The laptops feature comprehensive ports: two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C® (full function), one USB 2.0 Type-C (PD, data transfer), HDMI® 1.4b and a 3.5 mm combo audio jack.

Engaged hybrid learning

ASUS BR1402 series have been meticulously designed for the needs of our post-pandemic world, where education has inevitably extended beyond traditional classroom environments — and to places where the right technology can aid concentration and learning.

BR1402F has a 360° flippable touchscreen that can be used in diverse scenarios, from traditional laptop mode to tablet or anywhere in between. This model also benefits from a 13 MP world-facing camera, helping students to capture content from a whole new perspective, plus an optional MPP 2.0 garaged stylus — with a 15-second charge providing enough power for up to 45 minutes of use. The models have an LED indicator on the top cover for educators to see at a glance if student’s laptop is facing internet connectivity or power problems — giving teachers a heads-up when a student might need help.

To provide exceptional learning and video-conferencing experiences, the BR1402 series laptops feature ASUS AI noise-cancelation technology that employs machine learning to isolate unwanted noise from human speech. They also feature a noise-reducing camera that eliminates up to 94% of the random noise, especially in low-light conditions. The microphone can also be muted with a single tap, for those moments when the conversation needs to be private.

Modular, easy-to-service design

The BR1402 series are easy to maintain and upgrade, ensuring minimum downtime for maximum learning. The modular design allows key components — such as the keyboard, battery, thermal module and I/O card — to be replaced in minutes using simple tools. Even the case screws have been thoughtfully designed, with a captive mechanism that ensures they cannot be dropped or lost. Both laptops can be upgraded, with easy access to both the M.2 SSD and memory slots —up to 16 GB RAM with a convenient service door on the base which allows easy access without dismantling the entire device.

2 ASUS BR1402 keyboard is spill-resistant, not waterproof. Water damage is possible if the product is submerged or exposed to large amounts of waters for long periods of time. ASUS standard limited warranty does not cover problems resulting from accidents such as water damage. To prevent water damage resulting from large spills or other accidents, ASUS recommends turning off the notebook, then tilting the laptop to drain away the excess water, wipe off and let it dry for at least 24 hours.

R = 2 indicates a 99% reduction in bacterial activity compared to an untreated surface.
