ASUS Announces World's First EPYC 2U6N High-Density Server
2020/11/09
RS620SA-E10-RS12 perfectly balances the needs of computing power and storage for diverse multitasking workloads
TAIPEI, Taiwan, November 9, 2020 — ASUS, the leading IT company in server systems, server motherboards and workstations, today announced the all-new RS620SA-E10-RS12, a new server targeting web-hosting services, content-delivery networks (CDN), enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) applications, high-performance computing (HPC) and data analysis.
RS620SA-E10-RS12 is the world’s first 2U6N high density server focusing on extreme computing density in 2U form factor. It perfectly melds high computing density and an organized-cabling design to meet the requirements of standard datacenter environments, without modifications. The new server also has exceptional environmental credentials, recently achieving the world’s highest SPEC Power ranking for energy efficiency for a high-density server powered by AMD® EPYC™ 7002 processors.
World’s first 2U6N high-density server
RS620SA-E10-RS12 contains six nodes in 2U chassis and each node is powered by an AMD EPYC 7002 processor. This supports a TDP of up to 280 watts and up to 64 cores per node, and PCI Express® (PCIe®) 4.0 bandwidth including one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and one OCP 3.0 slot. The PCIe 4.0 x16 slot supports a low-profile GPU such as NVIDIA® T4 to accelerate a diverse range of AI inferencing workloads. RS620SA-E10-RS12 also has support for 12 hot-swappable storage bays, enabling extreme flexibility. This includes up to six SATA/SAS hard drives and six NVMe™ SSDs, or all 12 bays populated with NVMe SSD storage. With the dual advantages of high core-counts and high transfer speeds, RS620SA-E10-R12 offers superior overall system flexibility.
RS620SA-E10-RS12 equipped with full PCIe 4.0 support in storage and networking interface controllers (NICs) to meet requirements on high-speed transfers for high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and data-processing applications. With the maturity of software-defined storage (SDS) and software-defined networking (SDN), enterprises are more willing to embrace hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) for business operation. This situation means that companies don’t have to purchase separate devices for storage, network switching and computing. Pooled resources enable enterprises to have more efficient utilization on IT infrastructures.
In particular, the arrival of the PCIe 4.0 standard has made HCI more efficient than before, with low latency and high bandwidth massively mitigating limitations on data communications and transfers. RS620SA-E10-RS12 realizes HCI demands in several ways. First, it supports PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs, doubling performance compared to previous-generation PCIe 3.0 devices. The traits in pooling and disaggregating resources mean that that PCIe 4.0 devices are becoming a trend in cloud and enterprise applications. With PCIe 4.0 NVMe and NIC, users are able to notice no difference between locally-attached NVMe and NVMe over fabrics (NVMe-oF). It also means that overall workloads can flow more efficiently and securely, since all data processing remains internal, with the help of IT firewalls and secure HCI architectures.
When it comes to total cost of ownership (TCO), RS620SA-E10-RS12 also benefits high core count (HCC) of the AMD EPYC 7002 processors. More CPU core counts are better for virtualization applications in both the cloud and HCI. High CPU cores and the high-density design make RS620SA-E10-RS12 ideal for use in a variety of different scenarios and IT infrastructure, while support for the fastest PCIe 4.0 devices mean the server is ready to tackle the challenges of digital transformati
