ASUS routers are designed to give you the best possible WiFi coverage, and in most cases a single ASUS router will deliver smooth, reliable WiFi to every part of your home. But WiFi coverage can be affected by many factors: room layout, construction materials, and even furnishings! If your home has dead spots or unreliable signals, ASUS AiMesh is the answer! AiMesh is an innovative new router feature that connects multiple ASUS routers to create a whole-home WiFi network. It’s a powerful and flexible way to solve your WiFi problems that also makes the most of your existing hardware: you can mix different ASUS router models, so when you upgrade there’s no need to throw away your old router — you can use it to expand your AiMesh network! AiMesh gives you time-saving central control over all the routers, and seamless roaming capability means you never need to switch networks. With other whole-home WiFi systems (often called mesh networks), you're limited to using matching hubs, and you often need to buy them in multi-hub packs. Your old router won't work with these systems, so you'll need to get rid of it — an expensive and wasteful thing to do. AiMesh is much more flexible and cost-effective: if you already own an ASUS router, our commitment to adding new features to existing routers means you can use it in your AiMesh network! For those new to ASUS, if you buy an ASUS router and find that later you need to extend coverage — perhaps to a new room or outbuilding — simply add extra ASUS routers to your AiMesh system as you need, and when you're ready: you're in full control! Many whole-home WiFi mesh systems are often sold in expensive multi-hub packs. Your old router won't work with these systems, so you'll need to get rid of it. AiMesh lets you combine powerful standard ASUS WiFi routers to create a whole-home WiFi system with incredible performance. Each router is capable of superb performance on its own, so when they're working together in an AiMesh system, they're unbeatable. In our own testing using the latest ASUS RT-AC86U router, we achieved 463Mbps speeds at long distances, even after we ran out of signal using a router from an off-the-shelf multi-hub system. This means that with AiMesh, your network can cope with demanding tasks like 4K UHD streaming even at the remotest corners of your home or garden! AiMesh incorporates several technologies to ensure performance and reliability. A rock-solid data 'backbone' connects all the AiMesh-enabled routers, with AiMesh intelligently choosing either a wired connection or the optimal frequency band — 5GHz or 2.4GHz. With tri-band routers, it will dedicate one of the two 5GHz bands to inter-router communications. Self-healing capability immediately replaces a failed router using the remaining router connections. Additionally, ASUS AiMesh checks the signal strength to each device from each router to ensure that devices are always connected to the best WiFi signal, automatically switching to a different router if needed. To deliver powerful and reliable WiFi to all your devices, AiMesh first creates a rock-solid 'backbone' data connection between all the AiMesh-enabled routers, choosing either a wired connection or the optimal frequency band — 5GHz or 2.4GHz — based on an analysis of the networking environment. With tri-band routers AiMesh dedicates one of the two 5GHz bands to inter-router communications. If one of the AiMesh routers fails, the backbone connection self-heals using the remaining routers. Additionally, ASUS AiMesh constantly monitors signal strength and switches devices to the best available router.

AiMesh can create a single, house-wide network name so there’s no need to constantly switch between networks as you roam around your home. AiMesh keeps an eye on the signal strength to your device, and switches it seamlessly to another source if necessary. All you have to do is enjoy it! If you prefer separate network names for each frequency band, you can do that as well — AiMesh is designed to work the way you want!
When moving between rooms you have to switch manually to the best WiFi source. You can't always tell which one has the best signal.
AiMesh automatically and seamlessly connects your devices to the router with the strongest WiFi signal, wherever you are. WiFi is simple again!
AiMesh is incredibly easy to use, but that doesn’t mean it’s not powerful. With AiMesh, all routers can still use all their own features, as well as all the features of the other routers — with easy central control of all settings from the ASUS Router mobile app or ASUSWRT. So great features like AiProtection, QoS and Parental Controls work across the entire network, ensuring that no-one can bypass them by connecting to a different router. Just remember to always connect your highest-specification router to your internet service.
Install the latest firmware on all routers and set extending routers to factory defaults
Connect the highest specification router to your internet connection as primary router and create the WiFi network
Turn on the other AiMesh routers, click 'Search' in ASUSWRT or the ASUS Router app to find them
Select a router, and click 'Apply' to add it to your AiMesh WiFi system
