What is “AV Mode”?
Generally, a standard Optical Disk Drive (ODD) can only be used with a computer. But when you connect the SDRW-08D3S-U ODD to another USB-compatible system such as Smart TV that supports playing videos, viewing photos and listening to music, and enable the AV mode, you can play videos, view photos, and listen to music from this ODD to your system*.
* Does not support DVD-video Title Disc (commercial DVDs).
How do I use the “AV Mode”?
To switch from ODD mode to AV mode, eject the ODD tray and press the Eject button for one second, then the LED on the front panel lights up. To switch back to ODD mode, you can either press the Eject button again for about one second or disconnect and connect the ODD to your system. The LED on the front panel is off in ODD mode. In AV mode, you have to wait for a few minutes for the system to detect the ODD (the detection time depends on the file size and the number of files). It takes about 2.5 minutes for the system to detect an installed 4.3GB disc.
AV Mode Overview
Limitations
When in AV mode, the ODD may malfunction due to incompatibility with a few systems or the system tried writing some files to a disc. If you want to burn files to a disc, please switch to ODD mode when it is connected to a notebook or PC.
